Offshore but secure
By Stan Beer
With offshore moves now a fact of life, whether we like it or not, a new industry is about to be born. Some big issues have recently been highlighted involving the security and management of offshore IT development and business process outsourcing. Every problem requires a solution, and one of the people providing technical solutions to offshore actions is Melbourne-based systems integrator David Erenboim.
Mr Erenboim, managing director of a small but growing firm BiztechIT, recently established a series of secure virtual private networks between a facility in Hyderabad, India, and a group of accounting firms and bookkeepers that outsources tax compliance work to Indian accountants.
The system put in place by Mr Erenboim ensures that all data is stored safely in Melbourne while Hyderabad workers are limited to sending just keystrokes and mouse clicks down the line through the internet.
"It took five people just one month to set it up, and what we've now got is a secure environment to allow workers in India to process data remotely," he says. "We believe this is a growing new market and it is appropriate for software development work. If you want to give someone in India access to a piece of code, they can work on it, they can manipulate it, but they can't store it locally or transfer it. We have put in place security mechanisms to the point where only restricted users at the home base can access data on servers." |
